Egyptian ruins and antiquities : photograph album, ca. 1870-1883.

The prints are primarily of artifacts, tombs, mummies, stele, bas-reliefs, statues, coffins, papyrus, etc. from the Gizeh Museum. There are also some views of the Bulak Museum, the "ancient road to Bulak, 1870, " the Sphinx, Karnak, Thebes, El Kab, Edfu Temple, Kom Ombo, Aswan, and Pithom during the work of Edward Naville.

Frith, Francis, 1822-1898

Francis Frith, was born in Chesterfield, in 1822. An early exponent of photography, Frith set up his own company in 1859 in Reigate, publishing photographic views. He travelled around the world taking photographs and in later years employed additional photographers to satisfy demand. Frith died in Cannes in 1898, but the company continued to operate until its closure in 1971.
